Powerful Ways to Reduce Your Risk of Breast Cancer

Powerful ways to reduce your risk of breast cancer By naturopath Margaret Jasinska Breast cancer is an illness feared by the majority of women. We regularly hear statistics about how common it is and nearly everyone knows a woman who has been affected. Many women feel that genetics are the sole explanation for who gets breast cancer and who doesn’t. Interestingly, research has shown that only five to ten percent of breast cancer cases can be explained by genes and just having a bad gene does not guarantee that you will develop the disease.  Even women with the BRCA1 and [...]

Can aluminium be a trigger for autoimmune disease?

By naturopath Margaret Jasinska There is good evidence that some toxic metals can trigger autoimmune disease, particularly aluminium, mercury, lead and gold. Exposure to toxic levels of these metals is very common in today’s world and they come from a variety of sources. Aluminium is a known neurotoxin that has long been implicated as a contributing factor to Alzheimer’s disease. Just recently it is being linked to the development of autism. Aluminium is added to almost all vaccines and this represents the most significant source of aluminium exposure in children. Aluminium is added to vaccines because it behaves as an [...]

The importance of Zinc

Sometimes we are so busy worrying about calories and macro nutrients such as carbs and fat, we don't think to place as much importance on the inherent need of micro nutrients. We have all heard of micro nutrients - they are the minerals that make up our body structure. Minerals are drawn from the soil into the foods we eat, so the quality of your soil is hugely important.  Is the soil your food was grown in drenched in chemicals such as pesticides fungicides and herbicides? Was it fertilised with human faeces (as is the practice in parts of Asia)?  [...]

Training in the heat

How is your training going? Great to be training in good weather again. It is so much easier to train and recover! The thing is that you have to hydrate heaps more now and look after your electrolytes loading. I use Magnesium Complete daily as this helps me sleep and relax. You also need to watch the sun exposure as it will add extra stress and free radicals on your body on top of the training, so make sure you dress appropriately, cover your neck, head and arms and apply sunscreen. Nothing wrong with having a quick drink stop if [...]

What causes an ectopic pregnancy?

By naturopath Margaret Jasinska An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that develops in a location other than the uterus.  Most commonly it occurs in the Fallopian tubes, but it may also occur in the cervix, in an ovary or in the abdominal cavity.  Conception occurs when the sperm penetrates the egg in a Fallopian tube.  Normally the fertilised egg then travels down the Fallopian tube and implants in the uterine wall. Occasionally something goes wrong and this does not happen. Symptoms of ectopic pregnancy In the initial stages, an ectopic pregnancy mimics the symptoms of a normal pregnancy.  Most women [...]

The Liver is the Master Chemist

by Dr Sandra Cabot Chinese medical theorists have referred to the liver’s role in the body as the ‘General of the Army’, and I view the liver as the “Body’s Master Chemist”. A healthy liver reduces the risk of cancer, obesity, dementia, diabetes, and premature aging. When it functions properly, the liver enables other organs in our body to work better. The liver is the only organ in the body that can regenerate itself. Twenty-five percent of a liver can regenerate itself into a whole new liver. You may be surprised to learn just how much work your liver does! [...]
